b roll
b roll is a found text poem-monologue using snippets of conversations between me and my ex, incidentally recorded on a Mini-DV camera as I shot b-roll for a video directing job. Screenshots of the sections of video that I drew text from are included to accompany the piece. The sequencing of the text of the monologue was ordered alphabetically, a byproduct of my Macbook’s programmed organization of the screenshots.
Created for and published in No Need to Respond: On Grieving Your Ex, a zine by Asha Manuel and Sara Elbanna, the piece was a freeform exploration of memory and form. I was interested in how to continue to use digital discard from video art projects, and in how to make sense of a painful memory.
