first date

is a short solo play that explores the contradictions in the intimacy and alienation inherent in performing. It is a fluid and non-linear exploration of how our identities are defined through our relationships to other people, and how obsessive rehearsal required by a performer worms its way into the mundane and everyday.

A performer rehearses, their back to the audience. We are not sure they know they are being watched. Or, they know exactly how they are being watched. And they love it. Or, maybe they hate it. But they need to do it. They need, need, need to do it. But well, um, either way they- It’s rude to not- well, they need to introduce themselves, first.
